the moments that create my life

Wednesday, January 25, 2012

We have thoroughly enjoyed the nice weather over these past couple of days. After so much rain and cold, we were in serious need of some outside time and sunshine. We may or may not have been getting tired of being cooped up inside together! : )
I'll admit- I'm a winter girl. I LOVE bundling up, snow and cold weather. Don't get me wrong, i love summer time too....the lake, pool and water sports o my!
My little warm weather lovers had such a great time outside. Our attitudes were starting to stink and patience was growing thin. So, we went out and practiced softball with Sister ( she only had a month or so left before tee ball practice starts..... Exciting!) and drew with chalk. We played and ran and laughed a lot.
I love how the Lord gives us these wonderful moments when we need them the most!
Here are a few pictures of my adorable little people! I'm off to finish prepping for our long weekend of celebration! On Friday, we celebrate FIVE wonderful years of being married! We have a fun-filled little adventure planned. No worries. The little people will be here (and GREATLY missed) to hold down the fort with some pretty special people. Details to come later on five years of being married to my best friend and our celebration.

A little update. : )

This week has been busy, yet wonderful.
Between school and homework and life, we're exhausted. It's a good exhausted though! We've lived and enjoyed doing so.
On Thursday, we visited a pulmonary specialist for our little guy. I plan on doing a post on that information. So, stay tuned for that if you're interested.

Today, we had lots and lots of rain. We will probably be wishing for rain later on this year. We enjoyed the excuse to stay home and in our pj's today. Sister particularly loves pajama days! She may or may not get that from her mommy! ; )
We laughed and played and just enjoyed each other. And the little man got a little carried away with his Greek yogurt! Both of the littles also enjoyed wearing some of their Daddy's old shirts! They love them and absolutely think they are the greatest things yet!

Enjoy your Sunday!!!

Tebow Mania

I know. The Broncos got beat out of the play-offs.

There's one thing I've learned during this football season:
You either love Tim Tebow or you hate him. And every person seems to be pretty proud of their opinion.

I think he is a pretty jam-up guy (despite that little decision to play for the Florida Gators.... just can't love that). He has strong faith and isn't afraid to show it. He doesn't hide how he feels or his praise to his Heavenly Father. He doesn't try to beat the Bible into people, but just shares his faith.

It is incredibly frustrating to me that he has received so much ridicule for his portrayal of his love for Jesus. He is in a position where thousands of people can have their eyes opened to the love of Jesus just by watching him play a game or do an interview. Why is it okay for players and coaches (and anybody else in the public spotlight, for that matter) to be profane and promote immoral actions, but so controversial for Tebow to pray on the sidelines before a football game?

As a mother of a son, who will most likely love sports, I can't help but hope that he chooses someone with such remarkable character as Tebow to be his role model. I would much rather him choose to model his actions after and strive to achieve things the way that Tebow has, with such a Christ-exuding attitude, rather than someone who curses, breaks the law, hurts others, and acts irresponsibly.

I have no doubts that Tim fails in his walk with Christ every day. Isn't that what it is about though? Striving to walk our daily lives like Christ, but failing miserably because we simply can't do it on our own. That is why Jesus came to this earth to begin with. As humans, we can't possibly be good enough, perfect enough, kind enough, compassionate enough to earn our way into Heaven. When we trust in Jesus to be our Savior, He cleanses us and covers our sins with His blood for eternity. We should still strive to please Him and show His love to others. We need to tell everyone we meet about Jesus, in hopes that they too can trust in Him and become one of His children.

I want to be more like Tebow- not ashamed of my faith in Jesus and proclaiming His name to the world!

Thoughts for Thursday

-Sheesh! How is it already Thursday? This week has flown by.

  • We've experienced a bit of a schedule change this week. With my class schedule, I'm not home nearly as much as the kids as accustomed to. Thankfully, they have two wonderful grandmothers that love on them while I'm gone! : ) Actually, they have six grandmothers total (including their greats) but there are two of them who stay with the little ones most often.
  • This morning, little brother cried about going to school. He said, "Mo cool. home, you mommy" Meaning, 'no school. home with you mommy.' melt my heart.
  • The little ones have been enjoying bath time with their boats and other toys. The little man let me snap his picture.

  • I've also been doing a few little projects. Actually, I've had quite a bit of help from my sweet husband. After sanding this spool down, we painted it orange. I plan to use it as a bed side table for my little guy. We'll see how it looks in his room. I'll post pictures once it is in place.

  • I also got this awesome table from my mother-in-law as part of my birthday present. which is on Saturday... not that it matters  :) My plans are to pick up three or four antique books to stack, as well as some new pictures for the table.  I picked up the chairs from my grandparents. They were bought in the 1960's and were headed for the thrift store. I saved them and plan on recovering them once I find a material I like. For now though, the orange tweed and even the green velour are growing on me.  thoughts? opinions?

  • I drove down our road and way out of the way after I picked the kids up from school. We had already had lunch and they needed a nap so badly! Both kiddos successfully fell asleep. Sister woke up when I put her in her bed. Little man is still snoozing. : )
  • We've been so crazy and tired around here. Between new exercise routines, school schedules and birthday celebrations, we are all wiped out!
  • I joined Moms Clean Air Force. More info to come on that. You can follow the link. Basically, the organization promotes a healthy environment and clean air for our kids! I feel like it's important to do our part in saving the world that our kids are growing up in.
  • We're in the midst of working on some new environmentally friendly things around here. Maybe I'll write a post on that.
I think that's enough randomness for one day!
Have a great afternoon and a wonderful Friday!

blown away.....

in a good way!

As you may or may not already know, I am starting my last semester at UGA today. If all goes as planned, I will graduate in May and become an alumni of the University of Georgia. That day pretty sure it's May 11th can't get here fast enough. Then, it can. I don't want to wish 4 months away quickly as I know it will be filled with lots of joy and fun moments, but it will be so amazing to be done. finished. no longer a student. oh my goodness. I can't imagine how I'm going to be feeling on that day!

back to being blown away.

You also may or may not know that I STINK at math. really really stink. Just ask my husband. or my mother. or my mother in law. Calculus was the cause of lots and lots of tears. It just doesn't click in my brain in a way that I can regurgitate it back onto a test. : / just doesn't happen.

Bad news is, that I have to talk Calc for Econ as a major requirement. See.... not just calculus, calculus for economics.  I was able to register for the class with a highly recommended professor. Apparently, she is really helpful, a great teacher. The simple fact that she is recommended by college students say a LOT. a WHOLE LOT. College students are ruthless, mean, and opinionated.

Today, in class, I was blown away. Really really blown away. She called role and each person was instructed to tell the class where we were from and one thing about ourselves. Most people are from Georgia, like to cook, bake and play different sports.
After the role is called, the professor introduces herself and begins to tell us about where she is from.

She says there is one thing that she thinks we need to know about her, that she is a CHRISTIAN.
Blew me away. She wanted the class to know so that we can hold her accountable as a Christian, to make sure she is being fair, respectful and exuding her Christian faith in her daily walk.
I was amazed and encouraged. It is a rare thing to see a college professor who openly professes their faith. It's uncommon.
I was also convicted. When it was my turn, I had mumbled something silly about wakeboarding and skiing, to go along with the 'theme' of sports and activities. For my professor, the most important thing that she wanted us to know, was that she was a Christian.
Think of the difference there would be if being a Christian was the most important thing to us - the first thing that we share when we are introducing ourselves. Being a Christian should be part of our identity.  We should share it with others, not only to open the door for discussion and sharing Jesus with the world, but also as a way to encourage others to hold us accountable in our walk as my professor did.

This encouragement that I received from my professor's simple act of proclaiming her faith was huge. It brought to my attention how easy it is and how important it should be to us, to share our faith. to share Jesus. to encourage people to look for Him in me on a daily basis.

SO.... I am a Christian. More than being a Christian, I believe in Jesus. I am thankful that He died on the cross and rose again to save me from my sins. I want to be held accountable. I want to hold myself accountable. I want for other people, my kids, my husband, my family, friends, and strangers to be able to see Jesus in me.

You is.....

I finally got around to watching The Help. It was fascinating. I. love. it.

I love seeing the point of view of the help.

I was intrigued by how much Aibileen tried to invest in the little girl she cared for.
Of course, my favorite quote was "You is kind. You is smart. You is important."

Imagine if we invested in our girls in this way. Even as little girls, they are influenced and encouraged to be older than they are. From the way clothes are made for them to shows and movies they watch, they are made to think of themselves as older girls do.

I ran across an article a bit ago. While watching The Help, I thought back to it. You can find it here.
I completely agree with this article. It is easy to get lost in the pursuit of being 'hot' and lose our 'prettiness'. Pretty is so much more valuable than hot will ever be.
Let's teach our girls to be pretty... that they are kind, smart and important.

New Years....

and a few little tidbits for memory's sake : )

We spent our New Year's Eve at home with our little loves! We grilled steaks and had cheesy potatoes with cookies as dessert. yep. really piled in the goodies before the new year ; )

I snuggled up with my little people for books, songs, and prayers one more time for 2011. Both of my babies are getting so big. I just adore them and enjoy every little moment with them.

I attempted to watch some of the NYE coverage on TV with my sweet husband.... instead we both fell asleep, woke up, and went to bed before midnight. I slept like a baby and woke up rested for the first day of the new year!

On New Years Day, we enjoyed more delicious, not good for your heart food and lots of lovely moments with our families.  Now we're four days into 2012 and it's already flying by too quickly for my liking.

The only goal I have for 2012 is to be more intentional with my time. I want to slow down, soak up every single moment with my little people. They are so smart and inquisitive... and positively hilarious. Of course, we have our moments. Sister has her 4 year old attitude complete with the head shake and pouty lips. Brother is determined and sneaky and loves for you to watch him do things he's been told otherwise all while he shoots his sly little grin at you.
Still..... even in those moments, I can't help but thank the good Lord for them, for their determination, their strong opinions. Because I know that if we can direct their spirits, not crush them, they will go far!

Now for the tidbits.....

Currently, little brother is nearing 27 months old! He's a hoot. His enthusiasm and sense of humor crack me up. He loves Lightning McQueen from the 'Cars' movies.... 'Queen' is his best pal. His love for cars and trucks, in general, is undying. : ) Little man loves to jump and ride his bike. He adores his big sissy and loves to push her buttons and scratch her face : / I guess that's just typical little brother for ya. If you ask him, he is his daddy's boy..... but we're working on the mommy part.

Sister is 3 years and 4 months old. She is incredible. Her intelligence and wittiness amaze me every single day. No joke. She remembers thinks so quickly, sometimes things that I have to really think about to remember. She has a comeback before I can even finish my statement. The little lady is hard headed, compassionate, loyal and confident, yet shy. She knows that she's smart and can outsmart you any day, but she'd rather sit back quietly and let you look like a fool..... unless you're her mama and then she's happy to fight toe-to-toe. of course.... mother-daughter relationships. : ) Currently, the little miss has been enjoying dancing her heart out to Just Dance Kids on the Kinect and playing with her babies and Calico.

I just love them. to the depths of my soul. They're, by far, two of the best things that have ever happened to me.
Thank you, Lord, for these precious babies!

Christmas Day was glorious!

Our silly little elves, Betsy & Finn,  got me into a bit of trouble in their final act of this Christmas! According to the Mister, they went a little overboard with the snow and colored lights they scattered all through out our house! I may or may not still be cleaning up 'snow' : (
They even had the jolly ol' man take their picture before they all left for the North Pole! : )

Brother woke up and wasn't too sure about all the lights and snow, but definitely wanted to find out if he got his bike. After we convinced the princess to get up yep.... convinced her. she wanted to keep sleeping we let the littles check out the living room situation!

Santa ate his cookies and drank his chocolate milk!
He even directed the kiddos to Luke 2!

Sister got her Ariel...her only request.

Brother was super pleased with her bike and 'Queen' helmet.
He is fascinated with Lightning McQueen!

After our early morning at home, we headed to my grandparents' house for our traditional breakfast! This is hands-down my favorite part of Christmas! We spent time eating yummy breakfast casserole, drinking coffee and playing with the littles. Then, we headed to church!

Pops & Gramma with their grandkids
with all of the additions : )
my bigger little brothers

my parents and my baby bruddas

4 generations

and so is real life with a toddler and little girl.
we gave up on getting a 'good' shot after 15 attempts : (

We spent the afternoon dancing on kinect and playing Calico critters with Sister : )  G & II came over, as did Gramma & Pops to spend a little extra time with the kiddos.

Unfortunately, I have no pictures to share from our Christmas night. We went to my other grandparents' house for dinner that was delish and spending time with family!

Christmas Eve : )

We had such a wonderful, relaxed Christmas Eve day. We like to just be home and do our own thing with the little ones during the day.
This year, we meaning the kids and their daddy made our cookies for Santa....

lots of laziness, laughs and cuddles : )

We headed over to Grandy & Papa's house for our annual Christmas Eve time together. There were tons and tons of laughs, fun games, and yummy food..... of course, there were fabulous gifts, too. That's not important though. What matters most was the sweet time that we got to spend with some of the ones we love the most!

the entire crew : )

I don't have many pictures. When I focus on getting lots of great pictures, I feel like I miss out on the memories. I'd rather live in the moment.
We had a wonderful Christmas Eve. After our time with family, we headed home to tuck the little ones in. After they were nestled all snug in their beds, Mommy & Daddy went to work.

And our little elves got Mommy in a little bit of trouble with their Christmas Eve antics..... : )

Christmas Day recap coming up next!
