The Getaway

Last Thursday, the hubs and I dropped the little people off at school and headed for the hills. no, really. We left our crying kiddos with their sweet teachers and took off for our little vacation. We headed to the Smokey Mountains to celebrate our first five years of marriage.
Tons and tons of thanks to my lovely in-laws and favorite people ever, my grandparents, for loving and caring for the littles while we were gone. They put up with a LOT of poop. literally. Of course, my people came down with a stomach bug and some nasty poop situations on Thursday after we had left. Thank you, thank you for not making us feel like we needed to come back home. : )
I think they probably also answered approximately five zillion questions as to when mommy and daddy were coming back home and another five zillion general questions. that's how my kids roll. zillions of questions each and every day.

We rented a cabin located between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, TN. It was so adorable and just perfect for our little getaway. We had only ever rented in Gatlinburg so it was nice to be a bit closer to Pigeon Forge! We found some wonderful places to eat: Huck Finn's (a catfish joint in PF) which was delicious! and Buckberry Creek in Gatlinburg. Buckberry Creek is a resort that was so beautiful, with exceptionally nice staff. They have a restaurant on the premises where the menu changed nightly. We feasted (literally ate until we couldn't eat anymore) on some yummy foods there. Of course, our favorite little secret is The Donut Friar. yep. donuts. There is this adorable older lady that runs this donut shop. She makes and sells cake donuts that are the greatest ones I've ever had. We may or may not have went there every night we were in town and got a dozen to bring home. I'm telling you.... if you go to Gatlinburg, go to the Donut Friar. Its out of this world.
little box of deliciousness

We did do other things besides eat and sleep..... we rode go karts, played putt-putt and shopped until a certain someone stopped the fun. but really, I got some super fantastic deals and finds while we were gone.

We packed up and headed home to our little monkeys on Sunday. We really enjoyed our time together, but were definitely ready to get home to our babies. I have some thoughts regarding marriage for another time. The topic of a lasting marriage is really on the top of my thoughts right now so look for those to come.

We got quite a few pictures sent to us while we were gone. And of course we had some beautiful scenery to take in.

A quick recap of our trip. We had such a great time and took so little pictures. It was fantastic.... but we've been given strict orders that we aren't allowed to go without the little people again.... betcha can't imagine which sassy 4 year old lady told me that!?!?!
